The travelling exhibition open to the public ‘Inspired in Barcelona: a gathering place’, is dedicated to Barcelona’s bar culture between interior design, food design and moments of sharing.

From a Vermut aperitif, transformed into a cloud, to other tastes of food design, graphic design, illustration and, of course, interior design: the exhibition ‘Inspired in Barcelona: a gathering place’ brings Barcelona’s bar culture, with its colours and vibrant energy, to the Fuorisalone. The event, open to the public from 7 to 12 June, will take place in a striking, fascinating location in via Madonnina 12 (Brera) offering a sequence of secret spaces of different sizes around a picturesque courtyard. More than 100 products, concepts and works will be displayed in the two main halls of this exposition path, organised into two macro-areas: the first on is a space that aims to inspire everything related to the table and to food design, while the other one is dedicated to the world of interior design, in particular bars, restaurants and other public spaces. To interpret the themes is Martin Azua, the artist and designer selected to convey through the installation the authentic soul of Barcelona and its values, result of a complex balance between tradition and innovation.

The first room is an environment dedicated to the world of interior and product design, with a particular focus on community areas. With an informal and engaging tone, eight different bar ideas are here articulated, with their own personalities and furnishings, through a variety of products that provide a broad idea of the Catalan bar culture. From Essential Bar, where minimal objects find their place, to Remember Bar that pays tribute to stools and tabourets, or Love Bar, with delicate, romantic and feminine features, to Fashion Bar, Green Bar, Magic Bar, Street Bar and Vermut Bar. A series of inspirational corners that, combined together, narrate with passion and energy the story of Barcelona’s approach to creativity and innovation.

The second one is instead a tribute to food and to the culture of the table, as a compendium of a culinary tradition that has its roots (in Spain as in Italy) in wineries, farms, cafés, restaurants, cocktail bars and terraces: meeting places where unique moments are experienced, but today also environments of great experimentation. The table, in Azua’s project, comes alive becoming a subject and no longer an object; it walks on real legs and waves its arms, moving around the perimeter of the room, dancing and showcasing art and illustration projects, gastronomic explorations and tableware ideas.

Ceramics exploring novel forms, innovative containers, investigations into the food of the future, as bread sculptures and unique pieces, find an appropriate collocation in this ambience.

The exhibition “Inspired in Barcelona: a gathering place” is itself, in its entirety, a meeting and sharing place, a café. The opening party, scheduled for 7 June, from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. (here to register free of charge) will in fact be enlivened by clouds of Vermouth – the city’s most popular aperitif – offered as a taste to the public, and the experience will be repeated again on Wednesday 8, Thursday 9 and Friday 10 June, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Inspired in Barcelona: a gathering place” is promoted by the Government of Catalonia (ACCIÓ – Catalonia Trade & Investment) and the Barcelona City Council (Department of Creative Industries of Barcelona City Council), conceived by BCD – Barcelona centre de Disseny, and sponsored by Kriscadecor. The art direction is by Iván Bravo and web design is by The Others.
