Lombardy hospitality venue wins World Luxury Hotel and ISFA awards
Aria Retreat & SPA, the new luxury five-star resort on the Italian shores of Lake Lugano, includes 40,000 m2 of parkland, five restaurants and swimming pools, sports fields, wellness centres, and a private beach. Conceived by Milanese architects R4M Engineering on the concepts of the resort’s slogan ‘freedom, light and air’, Aria Retreat & SPA – part of The Leading Hotels of The World group – features a design that stands out for its low environmental impact and the use of particularly refined and innovative technologies and materials.
These include Lapitec sintered stone, a 100% natural Italian material, used here in 12mm thick large-size slabs for the ventilated facade, for the building’s roof and for the horizontal and vertical surfaces of the external terraces as well as some of the internal communal areas. And it is thanks to the use of Lapitec in various finishes and colours, and its processing, that the resort won first prize in the Commercial Mineral Surface Project of the Year category at the ISFA Awards, an American prize awarded by a multidisciplinary jury of experts for the best architectural interpretations of stone and ceramic surfaces.
Finally, in November, the resort as a whole, including its design concept, facilities, hospitality and connection with the local area, won the recently introduced Luxury Wellness Retreat award to enter the hall of fame of the World Luxury Hotel Awards, the most prestigious international recognition for luxury destinations.
